Narcissists are obsessed. They are obsessed with themselves, of course, but they are more so obsessed with their targets. They are obsessed to the point of stealing, killing, and destroying all the good attributes about their targets until their targets are dead – figuratively but also literally.

This obsession narcissists have for their targets stems from their own need to maintain their often non-existent self-worth. Internally, they are lost and void. They do not tap into their own true selves because they are unsatisfied with who they are internally and prefer to mirror the personalities of others for whatever their vast reasonings.

In my experience, it does not matter if the narcissist is male or female. Narcissists are obsessed with you because many of them want to be you. This may be why each of the cyclic stages of narcissistic abuse feels so strong for the targets. Narcissists obsessively love bomb their targets into experiencing euphoric feelings, devalue their targets to the lowest depths of despair, and discard their targets like trash without providing targets with any sense of closure because there is no closure.

You Are The Target

When narcissists cannot devour you in your fullness, then they obsessively turn to hating you. They despise you from their core, but I have always reasoned that narcissists simply despise you because they realize that you cannot be duplicated no matter how hard they might try to do so; that you cannot be contained no matter how hard they try to hold onto you; and that the best parts of you are your essence which they can never change nor control.

Narcissists are obsessed with you in every cycle of their narcissistic abuse against you. If they love bomb you feverishly, then prepare for the worst of their devaluing of you, and if you did not believe that they could devalue you any worse, then prepare for an unmatched feeling of discard by them. Narcissists are obsessed with you in every stage.

So as much as it appears that targets might idolize narcissists because they become chemically dependent upon the feelings that narcissists bring them, it is essentially more the other way around. In actuality, narcissists idolize their targets. They put them on high pedestals and then tear them down.

Narcissists idolize you. You are either in their minds or or you are not, but when you are, their obsession of you knows no bounds. They are obsessed with you because they view you as a possession that belongs to them and that is even when they discard you. After some time of having discarded you, they simply return to retrieve you as their object of obsession.
