Narcissistic Fleas

Narcissistic Fleas

“Narcissistic fleas” is a term used in psychology and therapy to describe behaviors, attitudes, or traits that a person may adopt from being in a close relationship with a narcissist. It’s an analogy where the “fleas” symbolize negative traits or behaviors that one may pick up from being around a narcissist for an extended period.

For instance, if a person is consistently exposed to a narcissist’s manipulative and self-centered behaviors, they might inadvertently start adopting similar traits themselves. It’s as if the negativity from the narcissist metaphorically “sticks” to the person, just like fleas can stick to a dog or cat.

In therapy or self-reflection, acknowledging and addressing these adopted behaviors (the “fleas”) is important for personal growth and recovery from the effects of being in a relationship with a narcissist. It emphasizes the need to break free from these negative patterns and develop healthier ways of thinking, behaving, and interacting with others.
