It Had To Be You
It had to be you. Nobody else will do. Actually, it could be anyone, but it still had to be you.
Narcissists choose you and others as targets for various reasons, but when narcissists choose you and others as their targets, narcissists are most often going to mirror and copy you and others.
Narcissists mirror their targets to absorb the best of their targets’ qualities. In this way, narcissists are able to continue hiding their true selves. Since they already hide who they are behind masks of deception, mirroring and absorbing the best of their targets’ qualities only enables them to continue hiding who they truly are … keeping their false personas on display.
Narcissists require sources outside of themselves to siphon the best characteristics from so that they can make themselves into who they would rather present to other people. If you know any narcissists, you know that they exhibit two personas – one for behind closed doors and another for the public.
It is the public persona that narcissists wish to keep on display and intact. In order to do that, they need to make sure that they have plenty of narcissistic supply to help them define who they are going to present as because they lack their own identities.
Mirroring or copying their targets is a must for narcissists to hang onto the personas they wish to present to the world. In fact, narcissists present a piece of each of their targets’ personalities. So no one truly gets to see the narcissists’ true personalities unless targets spend a lot of time with narcissists by studying them to figure out how these narcissists truly operate.
Otherwise, the narcissists you experience are just different personalities from others that they have stolen to present as their own selves. This is the greatest case of identity theft that most people do not even know about narcissists. Narcissists are identity thieves.
Narcissists do not want to simply be you for the sake of being you, they want to be everyone else too. They want to be everyone else but themselves. They will do anything possible to keep a false presentation going, and when you eventually do get a clue and are on to them, you had best better believe you are about to be discarded and taken through one heck of a smear campaign.
There is absolutely no way narcissists want to face being outed and exposed as identity thieves. They want to be seen as original when nothing could be further from the truth.
